Did a Stolen Virus Cause…

Mass Vaccination Must be Imposed

‘We are all confronted with one of the most serious infections known today,’ he starts very seriously. ‘To this day there is hardly any remedy against this infection, according to the Ministry of Death, the British Ministry of Agriculture. It has caused the death of a lot more animals than any other disease.’ The breeders start smiling and prick up their ears. No whispering any more, but enormous tension. Wrath and anger have returned. And many hold back tears. ‘The policy of culling healthy animals is an unnecessary and sinful evasion. One can call in the Army, the vets from all over the world, but that won’t work. You can’t stop the disease this way. And 30 million animals will have been killed. That’s sheer madness!’ A break. The man sorts out his documents. Nobody moves an inch.
‘The tragedy however can be avoided. And if the Ministry of Death agreed to consult the real experts, it would grasp that the cattle disease could be stopped within thirty days: mass vaccination must be imposed. (...) Prohibition of exports? - The survival of the herds and flocks is worth this temporary sacrifice. What are we going to do with our right to export on the day when all the animals have gone up in smoke? This country can return to normality within 60 days. Let us stop the massacre. Let us vaccinate all herds. Tonight you must decide: Do you want to belong to the victims or to the survivors? It won’t be easy if vets and policemen knock at your door to collect your healthy animals. It has never been easy to resist. But tonight decide whether you want to take a big step forward: Put a stop to mass culling. Let’s start vaccinating immediately.’
Thunderous applause – like a longed-for relief. At last there appears to be a solution. Hands rise enthusiastically. ‘They won’t get my sheep!’ a woman shouts. ‘I’m going to use chains and super-glue!’ Another woman throws in: ‘We will act in solidarity. We all have mobile phones. Let’s phone as soon as anyone raises the alarm. I will support anyone of you with all my might.’ You can win time, demand documents,’ a more peaceful breeder suggests. Doctor North for his part recommends using the media. ‘Note down their numbers and call in the photographers if there are any problems. Paint targets on your sheep and make your position known in public. Paint a huge ”no further culling” in white on a hillside that can be seen from far away. You will be on the front pages of the newspapers of the world.’
