Farmers and the People Want
Neutrality Not War!
by Rune Lanestrand, Sweden
It is disgusting to watch, how – on the occasion of a dubious dinner below crystal candelabras in Rome –Swedish President Goeran Persson and his Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds approved the new EU constitution without any support by the Swedish people. Their behaviour became really pathetic when, after the signing, the two rose and shook hands as if an agreement between two states had just been signed.
Never before has “EU democracy” been better exposed for what it is. It consists of agreements which ignore the will of the people. We must, however, have a referendum on the EU constitution. The parties and the politicians, who, without wanting to hear the voice of the people in a referendum, are prepared to throw away the influence of our parliament on the most important questions of our country, do not deserve our confidence. We must question their views on democracy.
If the new European Union constitution is accepted, we will even lose our influence on both foreign policy and security policy.
Neutrality secured us peace for 200 years, a unique achievement in the world. Despite this knowledge, our army is being disarmed, and in accordance with the defence resolution deployment forces are being set up for crisis areas all over the world. Superficially, this all sounds very good, but it means that in future the European Union will be able to force Sweden to take part in conflicts of interests between the great powers with combat troops. This will make Sweden an additional target for terrorists.
The farmers and the people, exploited for centuries by the wars of their masters, want neutrality and not war. However, we also want a good defence. History will repeat itself if we do not succeed in stopping the high treason which the political elite continues to commit by selling our parliament’s influence and our neutrality, both of which were of advantage during the Cold War for the whole of the north.
